Buyers Club

Buyers Club through Azure Standard is a happening thing!

We are working with the distributor Azure Standard that operates out of Dufur, Oregon with deliveries in our area (usually the 3rd monday of the month). Orders need to be made online by 4:00pm of the wednesday before. August 13th is the deadline for our next order, with the delivery being made monday the 18th in the evening in the alley behind the Brownsville Saloon (Natalie Wade's garage at 109 Stanard).

As a participating buyer, you will order and pay for your food online and your order will be delivered to our delivery point as a separate box, but the frozen items will come collectively and we'll need to separate them out for you. You will need a minimum order of $40. If for some reason, we do not generate enough buyers to meet the $465 total minimum, your order will be carried over to the next cycle. You will not be charged on your credit card until the order is finalized. You will be able to modify orders that have not been finalized.

Azure Standard has two routes serving our area (D1 & D2). As we start out with ordering through them, we will be ordering only once per month (using the D1 route). This will give us more opportunity to build our minimum order amount. Down the road, as demand builds, we could go to two orders a month and utilize the D2 route.

When you first go to the Azure Standard website it appears to offer the same retail prices for single items that you would find in your typical health food store (and probably cheaper than 1st Alternative). So right there, you would be saving the cost of gas and of your time. But their actual lower prices don’t show up till you have logged in. For example, I like the Lisanatti almond cheese. It retails at stores for $2.89/8 oz package. Occasionally I’ll find it on sale for $2.20.  Azure Standard’s regular price is $2.35 and they have it on sale for September for $2.00. Buying by the carton or box quantities allow for additional discounts in the 9-10% range (that same cheese in a carton of 12 sells for $1.86). So the best case scenario (with a sale item) one could be saving 35% off of retail. In reality, good deals will vary from item to item, but it is clear that if you shop carefully you can save money going through the Buyers Club. Once we get going, we may consider methods to coordinate bulk orders and obtain those quantity discounts.

1. Verifying your order

There are quite a few steps after you bring up your shopping cart and proceed to checkout.
The Checkout screen with billing and shipping info.
The Shipping Method screen (be sure that the shipping route is "D1" for the right date)
The Payment Information screen (you can check the box to the right of "Pay using your credit card ending in.." and save yourself the time of entering that info.
The Verify Order screen will now come up. This screen looks like the end of the process but you need to click on the submit button one more time to verify the order and complete it.
The Order Receipt screen is the last page indicating your order is complete. As an added check, if in a few minutes after your online ordering you do not receive an email with your order info, your order did not go through.

2. Editing your order

If you made a mistake in your order, or would just like to add something you forgot, it's pretty easy to edit your existing order and/or continue shopping. Here is what you need to do:

Click on "MY ACCOUNT" tab.
Select "View Past Orders" link.
You will see your order number there and to the right
select the link "RESUME SHOPPING"
Your shopping cart will show up and you can click on the
trash can icon to the right of the items you want to delete
or on the "Edit" link for those items you want to edit (i.e.
changing quantities, etc.) You will need to complete your order in the same way you did the first time (proceeding to checkout, etc.)

3. Avoiding timeouts

If in the middle of shopping you leave your computer for a certain length of time, you may lose the contents of your shopping cart and have to start over. If you have to leave, you may want to proceed to checkout with what you have and then use the edit your order option (as outlined above) to resume shopping. Alternately, one can just add items to one's shopping cart. The items in the cart will remain there between sessions.

4. Making use of the search option and the "Favorites List"

If scrolling through the categories is too time consuming, you might want to consider using the search option. You can find it on one of the tabs at the top of the page. Just enter the keywords and look through the results.

For items that you think you will be likely to order on a regular basis, consider adding them to the favorites list. I will do that and then hit the back button and add them to the cart. Next time, I can find them in my favorites list instead of searching through the whole catalog.

5. Using the Sales Catalog

Most Azure Standard prices are below the retail tag you'll find in most food stores, but if you want to hunt for bargains (usually around 15% off the normal Azure price) be sure to check out the Sales Catalog in the publications tab on the left side of the azur standard homepage. It's a .pdf file that you'll need to download and open. These are often shipping in hardcopy form with each order.

You'll also notice that the prices drop when you buy in bulk.

6. Getting around access problems

If you have less than the $40 minimum for an order, consider asking a friend who is also placing an order to include your items. Likewise, you can combine orders with and help out those people who don't have an email address or don't have a credit card.

If you you have any problems with registering or managing your order, send an email to sbrenner@archetype.org or call 466-3060.
